September 23, 2012- The RUN is 7 out of 8 Weeks. Waist high or better, at least once a week. There was still a solid ground swell from Nadine on Sunday and Monday and more waves on Wednesday!

I know, I know, I'm late. But all of you surfers know why though.

Are you kidding me? The surf today was going off! Hey, I was working. For you. Shooting stills and video all day long. This was one of those days that you just had to document. And I did.

I bet I shot over 300 photos today and at least 15 minutes of video. You kidding? The light, the color, the perfection, and the talent that was out there. I was working my friends. Working.

So that's why I'm late. But I think most of you surfers here in New England can forgive me. You Californians might not, but you local surfers certainly understand. You'll see a taste of what's coming Next week at the bottom of this blog. And trust me, next week's blog is gonna be rocking.

So I took an unexpected trip down memory lane this week.

On Wednesday, 9/19/12 I stopped by the exact spot that I caught and rode my first wave in 1964. It was on the North Shore of Massachusetts. There were little waves. And I could just imagine what it was like back then. My dad used to take me and my friends to the beach. We never knew when there was surf. I mean we never knew if it was big, small, clean or junk. But we had so much fun back in those days. And my dad took photos.

This is the spot. Only this photo was taken a year later in 1965.

I thought about how cool it would be to be able to surf there with one of my kids, or all three of them. At the very least, to surf there with my son Mackey. That would be cool. Then I thought about the reality of me surfing for 48 years. Then it dawned on me. In two years, I'll be able to say that I have been surfing for fifty years! Wait, is that possible?

My math is not very good as a rule, but yes it is. 50 years in the year 2014. I hope I'm still around. After all, that is reason to celebrate. 50 years of surfing in 2014. Yikes.

Speaking of milestones, this coming April will be 10 years of this blog. Are you kidding me? Where has the time gone? I guess that's reason to celebrate as well.

Speaking of celebrating. Our good friends Brian and Sam Nevins got married this week. So a big congrats to the newlyweds Mr and Mrs Nevins...a bit of advice to you guys...HUMOR. That's the key. Keep smiling and laughing. Sure surfing, snowboarding, hiking, and all the rest is important. But it's humor that has legs.
So keep smiling and keep laughing.

And love will stay with you forever.

I know I am not alone when I say I am a pet lover. My young dog Patch turned two today. Sgt Patch USMC. He's such a treat. I took him out in the woods for a run, and he got to find and point a couple of birds. The latter of which was a large Tom Turkey. It was so funny. In fact, this is the photo of him pointing a turkey. Only I had no idea it was a turkey he was pointing until it flushed. Happy Birthday Patchy!

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:

The insanity continues at the US Embassies in the Middle East. Nice to see those idiots burning our flag. Isn't it great? I mean we give billions
of dollars worth of aid to some of these countries and they are attacking our embassies and killing Americans over some freaking low budget movie? Or is it what we all think? Al Qeada raising it's ugly head again.

Meanwhile back down in GITMO LAND Sheik Mohammed has returned his old Mickey Mouse ears for some custom fitted ears. And he ordered some Mouse Teeth. He looks like he's ready for the big upcoming trial. Khalid Sheik Mouse.

Note to self: Must pick up a case of toothpaste at Home Depot.

Did you hear about the loser who jumped into a Tiger pen in NY? This guy claims he wanted to become one with the Tiger. He almost did. He almost became Tiger dung. He was mauled pretty bad.

Week three of the NFL just ended and my son and I just watched the Patriots lose another heartbreaker. This time to the Ravens. Last week it was the Cards. One thing I think we can all agree on and that is...these NFL referees SUCK and need to be replaced with actual Referees. This is getting ridiculous. Just awful.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Matt Evans Sept 23rd!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Patch Sept 23rd!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lester Priday Sept 28th!
Congrats to Brian and Sam Nevins on their wedding!
Congrats to Kai Nichols for making the ESA ALL STAR TEAM!
GET WELL SOON Matt Denis WHS student!

Yesterday- 1972 Empty Wave Water shot.
(Below) I took this photo in 1972 with a cheap Minolta water camera using 110 film.
This was one of my favorite waves. I was there the first day we all surfed it for the first
time. I really learned how to ride inside those small tubes by surfing this spot.

This is the latest trailer for the documentary SURFING HEALS ALL WOUNDS. This was the most labor intensive project I have ever worked on. Both emotionally and physically. There
were times when I did not know if I could finish it. Having to relive the whole year in editing was so stressful. After finishing this movie, I realized that Buck Rowlee is my hero. In fact, the whole Rowlee family are. I was just a vehicle to help tell this story. I really hope you get something out of this. It is available at the Local Surf Shops and online. Portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Molly Rowlee Fund. Thank you. Surfing, Community, and Love.

By request and older Crackie video. As soon as Crackie is back from his fling with Kate Middleton, we should have all new Crackie clips. Meanwhile enjoy this one from last year. If you have a question no matter how stupid, or absurd, please send it here...crackie@adlantic.com

Crackie has his own Facebook Page. You should Friend Him...though there are no guarantees that he'll be nice to you.
